Elder Scrolls Online gives players the possibility to change the traits on their equipment. This feature is available starting with Update 16 and it's not included in the Clockwork City DLC. All types of armors and weapons can have their traits modified with transmutation. From head to feet and from light to heavy, all pieces of equipment can go through the transmutation process. This goes for weapons as well. One handed swords, daggers, staves, two handed, shields, and bows can be subject to transmutation. Armors and weapons received as drops make no difference. Transmutation sounds great but there are three requirements that must be met. Players will notice that a transmutation table has appeared in the Brass Fortress. This requires access to the DLC and if players don't have it they can commission a transmutation table for their homes. Crafting writs or crowns are used as Elder Scrolls Online currency to buy a transmutation table for players' houses. Players that don't have access to the DLC, do not own a house, or don't have the means to purchase a table, can visit another player's house and use the table there. 

Transmutation crystals are items used to change traits. Players get these crystals from activities like random daily LFG, Veteran mode arenas, Undaunted pledges, and such. Crystals can also drop from dungeon bosses, random LFG, and Worthy mails. Players also need to have the desired trait unlocked for the item they wish to change. Items that have gone through transmutation become account bound and cannot be traded. Account bound means that ESO items can be sent to other characters on the same account. Transmutation is a great feature that gives players even more control over the character development system and opens up new customization options. The drawback is that it is a semi-premium feature. Players can unlock Clockwork City DLC with crowns or by getting the premium subscription. The cost to have a transmutation table in a house is also pretty high. The only way to use it for free is to make friends with someone who already has it.
