James Harden is for the first time on the cover. NBA Live 18 is the first game from EA's NBA Live series that features James Harden on the cover. The athlete is depicted in his Houston Rockets jersey. He joined this team in 2012. It's not uncommon for sports themed video games to have the same athlete on the cover for multiple editions. For example, the Spanish game edition featured Pau Gasol six times on the cover.

It's the second best rated NBA Live game. NBA Live 18 got a Metacritic score of 72 for both PS4 and XB1. The only NBA Live game that got better Metacritic scores is NBA Live 10 that was rated with 81 for PS3 and 80 for XB360. Considering that NBA Live 18 came back after a one year break this is quite an achievement. Players and critics had high expectations from it and the game didn't fail to deliver what was promised.

It's the first basketball game that features WNBA athletes. NBA Live 18 is the first basketball themed video game that adds WNBA athletes to its roster of characters. All WNBA teams are present in the game and players can choose any of their favorite players.

The scores are pretty much on par with its competitor's. The rivalry between NBA Live and NBA 2K is not a secret. Both franchises deal with basketball simulator games and both of them strive to come up with better features and unprecedented gameplay for each edition. NBA 2K was ahead for a while as NBA Live concentrated on the mobile segment in 2016 and didn't release the console game. But the franchise came back full force in 2017 and NBA Live 18 got amazing reviews and scores. EGM gave NBA Live 18 a score of 7.5 and NBA 2K18 6.5. Polygon gave both games 7/10. The Metacritic score for NBA 2K18 is 80 for PS4 and 85 for XB1 which is not that far ahead.

Livestrike events. Once in a while, NBA Live 18 players have access to special events that represent a unique opportunity to earn brand themed in-game items. So far, players were able to acquire A Bathing Ape, Pink Dolphin, Undefeated, and more themed in-game apparel.
