Mages Guild is one of the four NPC coalitions in Elder Scrolls Online. All players can join them no matter of their chosen alliance. Players come in contact with the Mages Guild right after finishing the starting area as they discover the first town. The quest line is a short one. There are less than 10 quests that can be completed pretty easily. The rewards include gold, various pieces of gear, the title “Master Wizard” and two skill points when finishing the last task. The story involving Mages Guild in Elder Scrolls Online is based on Sheogorath, the Daedric Lord of Madness. This makes the entire quest line extremely hilarious as players have to interact with the Prince himself and his servants who, just like their master, are not always the sanest people.

Mages Guild skill line contains spells that consume Magicka to deal damage. Among the passive abilities, players will discover Persuade. If this ability is unlocked, adventurers gain access to a new dialog option when interacting with NPCs. When Persuade is used, NPCs can give out secrets or have a friendlier reaction towards player's request. This skill is nice to have but there are other ways to obtain info from NPCs so not having it is not a major issue. Players obtain XP and rank up in the Mages Guild when discovering lorebooks. These books can be found anywhere, players just have to interact with them. Lorebook hunt is not difficult but it can be bothersome as adventurers have to always keep an eye for books and make sure to interact with objects such as bookshelves where tomes may be hidden. Some books give XP towards other skill trees like armor or weapons and some books are just a nice read. Another way of gaining reputation with the Mages Guild is by completing public dungeons and recovering Sheogorath related items. Players decide to invest skill points to unlock Mages Guild abilities depending on their class. For a spell caster Magicka user, some abilities might come in handy but for Stamina based characters these spells are of little to no use at all. Elder Scrolls Online achievements list has six Mages Guild related achievements. Players unlock two shades of Mages Guild blue dye. One is obtained when joining the Guild and the other, Arcane blue, when reaching max ESO leveling with the Guild.
